The Last Pool: Upstream and Down and Big Stony, written by Howard Walden and illustrated by Milton Weller, with an introduction by Sparse Grey Hackle, is a 297 page, 6 1/4 X 9 1/4 inch hardcover book published by Crown Publishers, Inc., New York. The copyright date is 1972, and this is a first (thus) edition: this volume contains two books previously published separately: Upstream and Down (nonfiction) was first published in 1930, and Big Stony (fiction) was first published in 1940. The author notes in the preface that some minor updates/revisions have been made to the original text.

The book is in very good condition in a very good unclipped ($7.50) dustjacket, with pale green cloth boards and dark green spine titles.

Synopsis - From the dustjacket: "These two classics movingly record a fisherman's life and dreams--from the drama and delight that attends the catching of a first trout to the image of an "outpost,"a quiet place deep in the woods, barely touched by civilization." Illustrated throughout with black and white drawings.

Condition Details - The book has a square spine, a tight binding, and no marks, tears, turned down page corners or writing. The cover has sharp corners with very light edgewear to the top and bottom of the spine and mild fading along the top edge of the front panel, but no soil or stains. The textblock edges are lightly toned with mild foxing to the top edge. The glossy dustjacket (in new, protective Brodart) has light edgewear and light rubwear, no tears. No unpleasant odors.
