Item for auction is a 40.51g slice of NWA 12949 Mesosiderite meteorite. The meteorite was purchased in May 2019 from a dealer in Goulmima, Morocco. Petrographic analysis by A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL showed an aggregate (mean grainsize ~0.4 mm) of orthopyroxene, pigeonite, anorthite and ~ 40 vol.% metal (kamacite+taenite) with accessory augite, silica polymorph, Ti-chromite and troilite. Geochemistry of the rock consists of Orthopyroxene (F18.0-23.5Wo1.2-3.2, FeO/MnO = 28-33, N = 3), pigeonite (Fs38.3-57.5Wo4.4-7.0, FeO/MnO = 24-30, N = 4), augite (Fs31.9-50.6Wo39.0-42.1, FeO/MnO = 33-36, N = 2), plagioclase (An90.5Or0.3), kamacite (Ni = 4.9 wt.%), taenite (Ni = 26.5 wt.%). The meteorite comes in a quality labeled display box along with a Big Kahuna Meteorites Certificate of Authenticity / Specimen Card. Scale cube in photo is 1cm on each side, and not included in sale.
