The Fairmont Olympic Hotel (originally The Olympic Hotel) opened on December 6, 1924, on the grounds of the University of Washington's original 1861 campus. Funded by local community bonds and named via a Seattle Times contest, this Italian Renaissance landmark hosted numerous presidents and celebrities.

1924: The hotel opens with a lavish banquet for 2,000 residents, establishing itself as Seattle’s premier luxury and social hub.

1970s: Placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

1980: After falling into disrepair, the hotel closes. A massive estate sale sells off almost all interior fixtures—including guest room doors—except for the original 1920s lobby chandeliers.

1982: Reopens following a complete $62.5 million historical restoration.

2003: Fairmont Hotels & Resorts takes over management, rebranding the property to the Fairmont Olympic Hotel
