Description:
Offered here is an unusual vintage molded hard-plastic ashtray manufactured by Efmen of Gijón, Spain.The ashtray features a colorful reproduction of the historic Spanish railway Socialist labor poster:
“Sindicato Nacional Ferroviario U.G.T.”
“Ferroviarios, con la fuerza de nuestra unión venceremos.”
The English translation is:
“National Railway Workers Union, UGT. Railway workers, with the strength of our unity, we will prevail.”
Estimated Age:
Based on the Efmen maker mark, the molded construction, the company’s known production of decorated plastic ashtrays and the later circulation of this historic poster design, this piece is best estimated to date from the late 1970s through the 1980s.The artwork itself originated during the Spanish Civil War era, but this ashtray is a later vintage reproduction and should not be considered an original 1930s wartime object.
