Note: All Italian M33 helmets listed by me were used in the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939. Some were reissued by the Spanish government during and after the civil war. Many were salvaged by the Spanish government and put into storage. None were made after 1939. The following is a summation of characteristics of the Italian M33 helmets made during the 1930's and World War II (Plus postwar characteristics).
Liner fingers have leather disc reinforcements at finger end hole where dome string goes through. (Post war: metal grommets on end hole of liner fingers)
Liner air vent rivets 2 tab (split rivets) or starburst type. (Post war: star burst only)
Rectangular chinstrap bales. (Post war: trapezoidal chinstrap bales)
Liner leather is tan brown or white. The earliest liners were white leather. (Post war: tan/yellow leather)
Orange felt padding under leather liner. (Post war: yellow felt padding)
Liners have various stitching pattern in rear of liner. (Post war: liner has a very pronounced "Z" stitch. Note: sometimes the "Z" stitch is found on liners from the 1930's-WW2, but is not very prominent)
Chinstraps are gray-green or various leather replacements. (Post war: chinstrap is tan canvas)
Paint may have early Italian light green or various field and Spanish repaints.
Hope this information helps in clarifying the differences in the M33 helmets.
