Vintage 1959 Trans World Airlines (TWA) First Flight air mail cover commemorating the inauguration of TWA jet service between the United States and major European cities, including London, Frankfurt, Paris, and Rome.


The envelope features a “First Flight New York – Paris – Rome” cachet with a TWA jet aircraft, New York Air Mail Field postmark dated December 3, 1959, and Paris Aviation arrival postmarks dated December 4, 1959. Addressed to Courtland S. Gross of Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, California.


Included is the original TWA insert card stating:


“This Official First Day Flight Cover marks the inauguration of TWA Jet service between The United States and Cities of Europe.”


A wonderful piece of commercial aviation history from the dawn of transatlantic jet travel and an excellent addition to any TWA, airline, or first flight cover collection.
