Vintage 1959 American Airlines Prop-Jet Electra First Commercial Flight commemorative airmail cover. This envelope celebrates the inaugural commercial service of the American Airlines Lockheed-built Electra turboprop aircraft powered by General Motors Allison 501 engines and Aeroproducts 606 turbo-propellers.

Addressed to Courtland S. Gross, President of Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in Burbank, California, and postmarked January 23, 1959. Features “First Commercial Flight” printing, American Airlines graphics, and period U.S. Air Mail postage. The reverse includes a Chicago, Illinois postmark and a “1959 Chicago International Fair July 2-18” cancellation marking.

A wonderful piece of aviation and airline history that would make an excellent addition to any first flight cover, Lockheed, or American Airlines collection.
