Antique, late 1890's "KICKAPOO DOCTOR" pamphlet with color litho covers. 32 pages of talk of ailments and the different organs, etc. Very interesting quack medicine from days gone by.

The "Kickapoo Doctor" most commonly refers to Dr. John Johnston, a popular "medicine man" and performer for the late-19th-century Kickapoo Indian Medicine Company. Despite his title, Dr. Johnson was not a traditionally licensed physician. He was kidnapped as a small child, raised by Mi'kmaq Indians in Nova Scotia, and learned traditional tribal medical practices. During the Victorian era, the Kickapoo Company (founded by two white businessmen) capitalized on frontier mythology and Johnson’s image to sell tens of thousands of bottles of alcohol-laced laxatives like "Kickapoo Indian Sagwa"
