Antique Clobbered Pearlware Plate – Doctor Calling Pattern – Hand Decorated – 19th Century
An attractive antique clobbered Pearlware plate featuring the popular Doctor Calling pattern. Originally printed in underglaze blue and later richly hand-enamelled in vibrant orange, green, pink, turquoise and cobalt blue, this “clobbered” decoration was added to enhance the original design, creating a unique and highly decorative piece.
The central scene depicts the well-known Doctor Calling pattern, showing figures gathered outside a traditional oriental-style pavilion, while the wide border is adorned with colourful floral sprays, birds and scrolling motifs against a striking orange ground.
Clobbered wares were often decorated in the late 18th or early 19th century, with each example being slightly different due to the hand-painted enamels, making every piece unique.
Measures approx 24.5 cm wide
A wonderful example of early English Pearlware and an excellent addition to any collection of transferware, clobbered wares, or Georgian ceramics.
