This is for a very nicely preserved Hunter Radiant Compass with the Royal Geographical Society Pattern dial by Francis Barker, retailed by Negretti & Zambra. It has a floating aluminium dial marked with the registration design number 416645 which was registered in 1903 and is known as the RGS pattern, it was designed predominantly for exploration but as you can see function is only half the story...its a very pretty looking compass as well. The floating Dial is suspended on a jewelled bearing under a flat crystal with bevelled edge, and marked with red quadrant lines. It opens with a push of the crown and it has an automatic transit lock on the inside that locks the dial in place when the lid is shut. It is marked by the retailer Negretti & Zambra on the underside of the lid. It is in really nice condition with no damage to it anywhere, just the very light wear you see to the outside and it measures 39mm in diameter and 52mm tall including the crown.
