This elongated stone pendant in the form of a bear dates to the Hohokam culture, circa 1300 AD. The slender proportions are characteristic of pendant forms intended to be suspended, and the bear subject connects to a widespread Southwestern tradition associating the animal with power and protection. Not found on federal or state land.
