This project was hand drawn and colored by an artist based on calcified white skin. Color is a process added later on.

The white calcified skin on the surface of agate is a change that occurs in the natural environment of agate. This calcification phenomenon usually occurs on agate raw stones, which is formed due to the exposure of agate to humid air or soil and long-term oxidation. Over time, this white stone skin will gradually become thicker and may eventually envelop the entire agate.

This calcification phenomenon is mainly due to the pores and cracks on the surface of agate absorbing moisture and carbon dioxide from the air, thereby forming calcium carbonate precipitates. This sediment forms a layer of white skin on the surface of agate, and what we see is calcified white skin.
