A very shiny, artistic, over-the-top Victorian cake basket by the famous James Tufts company.
The basket design has four flower panels on the edges with an ornate handle that has ornamentation that looks like lily of the valley. The feet are also highly ornamented with beading and flourishes. The basket has much silver and was probably re-silvered.
The mark on the base reads JAMES W TUFTS BOSTON WARRANTED QUADRUPLE PLATE 2759. The wording encircles a 4-point star. There is an etched number of 1726 on the base edge.
MEASUREMENTS
9 7/8 in (25.1 cm) long x 9 ½ in (24.1 cm) wide x 9 ½ in (24.1 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb. 14.3 oz.
CONDITION
There are no breaks, cracks, chips, or dents. The basket appears to have been re-silvered and is very shiny. There are wear scratches in the center of the basket. The basket wobbles a slight amount when placed on a flat surface.
