The main benefit is increased forgiveness and consistency, as the putter is less likely to open or close on mishits, which helps players get putts started on their intended line. 

A defining characteristic of zero-torque putters is that they balance with the toe pointing straight up (toe-up) when held at the balance point, because the shaft is positioned directly over the center of gravity to resist twisting and keep the face square through the stroke, unlike traditional putters that have toe-hang (toe pointing down) or are face-balanced (face parallel to the ground).
