GEORGIAN HALLMARKED SILVER SUGAR TONGS - GODBEHERE, WIGAN & BOULT, LONDON - 1808
A fine pair of George 111 solid silver bow sugar tongs. The exterior surface has been bright-cut in an attractive floral pattern showing the finest detail right to the spoon-style tips. The back of the bow is floridly engraved with a period set of three initials. The shape is even, with no sign of repair. The maker's mark on one 'arm' shows the tongs were made by Samuel Godbehere, Edward Wigan and James Boult in London. The opposite 'arm' is hallmarked with King George's head facing right, lion passant for sterling silver and the letter N as the London code for 1808. The length is approximately 5 1/2" (14cm) long and the weight is 35 grams.
