Edgar Colle (1897-1932) is today best remembered for the system of Queen's Pawn Opening that bears his name. But much else in the Belgian's grandmaster's play deserves attention. Perhaps Colle's brief life, racked with illness, and his erratic career for a time obscured the extraordinary abilities of the man who could on occasion outperform chess giants like Maroczy, Rubinstein and Tartakower.
Fifty-one of Colle's greatest games were selected, annotated and published, shortly after his untimely death, by Fred Reinfeld.
