A beautiful and increasingly difficult to find Grimwades Byzanta Ware pedestal fruit bowl dating from approximately 1927–1930.
Finished in an iridescent lustre glaze with a rich cobalt blue interior and warm marbled yellow exterior, decorated throughout with raised gilt blossom and oriental-inspired floral decoration.
Base marked:
Byzanta Ware
Grimwades
Stoke-on-Trent England
Pattern No. 4842
An impressive Art Deco display piece measuring approximately 9.5” x 3.25”
This bowl is above average for Byzanta Ware because it combines several desirable features:
* pedestal form,
* octagonal rim,
* cobalt blue interior,
* marbled yellow exterior,
* strong iridescence,
* complete floral centre,
* and excellent gilt preservation.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks observed. Light age-related crazing to the base consistent with age. Gilding remains bright and the lustre finish is particularly attractive.
A superb collector’s piece from one of the finest English lustreware ranges of the late 1920s.
