A pair of hammered copper bookends with an embossed design of Viking sailing ships on the waves. The bookends have an Arts & Crafts aesthetic.
The pair of copper plates that have been bent and hammered with a design of Viking ships. They have a nice weight and age. The metal is very malleable and so must be fairly pure copper. There are no felts on the bases and the bookends have no hallmarks or labels.
MEASUREMENTS
6 1/8 in (15.6 cm) wide x 2 ½ in (6.4 cm) deep x 5 ¼ in tall. Weighs 1 lb 3.1 oz.
CONDITION
One bookend has a bit less patina than the other. One bookend has a little dried paint on the base. There is also some spotting on the metal from age and use, as well as a bit of verdigris on the back. One bookend does not rest perfectly flat and so wobbles a bit. Once books are placed on it though, it won’t wobble.
A classic pair of beaten copper bookends to add to a collection or use in the library.
