SWITZERLAND 1927 5c & 20c PRO JUVENTUTE BLOCKS OF FOUR ON REGISTERED EXPRESS COVER ZURICH TO LEYSIN
1927 (Dec. 30), commercial registered and express cover from Zurich to Leysin-Village, satisfying the 1Fr domestic registered express rate. The envelope is franked with two blocks of four of the 1927 Pro Juventute semi-postal issue, consisting of a block of four of the 5c violet-brown and a block of four of the 20c carmine, all tied by black circular date stamps inscribed "ZÜRICH 3 / HAUPTBAHNHOF" ['30.XII.27-21 / VIII']. The face features an additional matching strike of the Zurich dispatch dater, a printed corner card for the "Hotel Gotthard / ZUERICH.", a paper registration label reading "R Zürich 3 Hauptbahnhof No 166", and a pink typographic "Eilsendung / Exprès - Espresso" label. It is type-addressed to Herrn Martin Scheerle from Rorschach, staying at the Hôtel de la Tour D'Ai in Leysin-Village. The reverse exhibits a circular arrival backstamp of Leysin ['31.XII.27-9 / II']. The cover shows opening tears along the top edge with a tiny pice missing and a vertical transit crease.
This domestic registered and express cover documents an urgent winter transmission sent during the holiday season from Zurich to the alpine resort village of Leysin. The postal markings track a rapid overnight rail transit sequence that left the main Zurich rail station post office late on December 30 and arrived at the Vaud Alps health resort by the following morning. The high-priority routing combined both registered tracking and express handling to ensure secure delivery to a guest at the Hôtel de la Tour D'Ai. The substantial 1Fr total franking, paid using complete blocks of four from the annual Pro Juventute child welfare campaign, reflects the specialized multi-tier tariffs required for fast-tracked alpine mail.
Please examine lot scan carefully and please send any questions at least 48 hours before the auction closes. Please note that cover condition usually includes normal wear and tear to cover edges, opening tears and some creases and wrinkles. Only exceptional or extreme condition issues will be mentioned.
