A crank position sensor kit for the Porsche 924S, 944, 944S, 944S2 and 951 (turbo) M44 engines. This kit is designed to mount a VR crank sensor - either the standard Porsche sensor (relocated from the bellhousing) or a Ford Zetec style sensor (a popular alternative for many aftermarket ECU installations) at the front of the engine to read a 36-1 trigger wheel.

Porsche 944 Crank Sensor Kit Installation
Unlike some other vendors kits, we have designed this kit to be independent of the alternator tensioner arm to avoid any unwanted changes to the crank sensor position when adjusting or changing the alternator belt. The cradle bracket mounts alongside the tensioner using longer fasteners and appropriate spacers. Note that the available adjustment is 234mm - 254mm. Please check on your vehicle the current length of your tensioner to ensure compatibility. This kit is not currently recommended for use with cars still equipped with air conditioning. Whilst it can be be made to work with AC cars it was not developed on such a vehicle and as such significant modifications would be required that we are not able to advise on.
Our preferred crank sensor for these Porsche conversions is the OEM Porsche sensor, however as an option the Ford Zetec 2 wire variable reluctance sensor with standard 2 pin junior mini timer connection can be added. This is purely for instances where this is a preferred sensor for some other aftermarket ECU's. If this option is not selected it will be assumed that the Porsche sensor is being used and the bracket will be supplied to suit. If you are purchasing our Motorsport Electronics based engine management package the Porsche sensor will need to be used as the loom supplied will suit this and not the Ford type sensor.
By utilising the very popular 36-1 configuration the user is able to modernise these old engines, negating the old flywheel based pickups (specifically the 8v where the trigger pattern is not supported by most aftermarket ECU's) and fit almost any aftermarket ECU for either 3d mappable ignition only (alongside carbs) or a fully mappable EFI ECU. This can also be beneficial in high performance applications where the old flywheel based pickup becomes unreliable.
