RARE ANTIQUE TOOL THE ELYRIA WRENCH CO THEWES PYPE-FIT-ER MARK 10 PAT APPD FOR PIPE WRENCH LATER ASSIGNED TO RIDGID TOOL

Item Specifics:

Description:

This is an incredibly rare antique tool made by The Elyria Wrench Co of North Ridgeville, OH before that company was acquired by Ridge Tool Company.  This pipe wrench was invented by William O. Thewes with patent applied for on April 23, 1924.  The patent was granted on September 1, 1925.  This pipe wrench was his original design and it lacks the ears that holds the threaded collar in place that is featured in today’s pipe wrenches.  He later added the ears to the main casting to trap the threaded collar in position.  (Thewes modified his original pipe wrench which he applied for patent on May 26, 1922, to include a coil spring and a plate to eliminate the difficult task of installing a rivet inside the jaw hole.) This Thewes Wrench is a 10 inch Pipe Wrench and is marked ‘TRADE THEWES PYPE-FIT-ER MARK 10’ and on opposite side ‘THE ELYRIA WRENCH CO. ELYRIA, O.’  The Pipe Wrench also has ‘PAT APLD FOR’ on the handle casting just above the threaded collar.  ‘PAT APPLIED FOR 10’.  The North Ridgeville Historical Society has a great article on the 100th Anniversary of Ridge Tool and it features this Wrench!!
