AUSTRIA 1958 PRO JUVENTUTE BALLOON POST SPECIALIZED POSTAL STATIONERY COVER

1958 (Oct. 26), Kinderdorf Balloon Post Jubilee Souvenir Cover from Salzburg to Salzburg-Kasern. The envelope features a block of FOUR IMPRINTED ISSUES AT UPPER RIGHT acting as the postal stationery base layout, consisting of regional costumes and provincial definitive indicia (3g blue, 3g red, 5g red, and 20g green). This unique commemorative stationery envelope is uprated with a 30g purple girl with grapes definitive and a 1.50 S reddish-brown Linz building definitive to satisfy the specialized flight premiums. The uprating adhesives and the underlying imprinted block are tied by a circular SALZBURGER FESTSPIELE / 30.8.58 machine cancel and a central pictorial balloon post postmark. An octagonal first day marker inscribed Ersttag with a central post horn and Austrian federal eagle is struck at the upper left.

Two superb strikes of the illustrated cachet reading 10 JAHRE ÖSTERR. BALLONPOST / XX. BALLONPOSTFLUG / SALZBURG 2 / 26.OKT.1958 / BALLON "OMO" clearly anchor the left portion of the envelope. The lower center displays a blue two-line commemorative handstamp reading F. M. VIERTHALER / JUBILÄUMS-FLUG. A framed blue label inscribed MIT BALLONPOST is affixed at the bottom right corner, balanced by a red-framed anniversary text box reading 1948-1958 / Österreichische Pro Juventute / 10 Jahre Kinderdorfballonpost / S 10.-. The destination field is struck by a circular SALZBURG-KASERN / 26.10.58-17 / a arrival backstamp at the center. The reverse features a wide unsealed security flap printed with intensive German instructional text detailing the Verwendungsmöglichkeiten dieses Ballonpost-Briefumschlages. The envelope is in a sound and intact state of preservation.

This highly specialized commemorative flight cover tracks an organized social and philatelic transit route over Salzburg during the late 1950s. Dispatched on October 26, 1958, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the SOS Children's Villages (Kinderdorf) fundraising flights, the cover features a rare four-indicia official stationery printing uprated with supplemental definitive issues to satisfy the special 10-Schilling balloon carriage fee. The envelope was physically loaded into the basket of the famous hot air balloon "OMO" at Salzburg, flown over the metropolitan area, and processed through the Kasern airfield post wicket on the same afternoon, providing an exceptional record of mid-century Austrian humanitarian aero-philately.

Please note that cover condition usually includes normal wear and tear to cover edges, opening tears and some creases and wrinkles. Only exceptional or extreme condition issues will be mentioned.

SHIPPING
Shipping is by regular mail $1.99 for Canada and USA and $2.99 for rest of the world. This shipping rate is for up to 3 items. For 4-6 lots it is an additional $1 and for every multiple of 3 lots beyond 6 it will be an additional $1. If a buyer has bought multiple lots he/she may elect to have them sent as multiple shipments by regular mail with each shipment not exceeding $100. Please note that in some cases the shipping may be slightly higher due to the fact that the item is oversize. If it has to be mailed in a 8.5 x 11 size envelope the shipping rate is an additional $1 then the quoted rates. All shipments valued over $100 including shipping will be sent by Registered mail for an additional $12 to the regular mail rate total. The maximum amount per shipment is $500 (including shipping). Any purchases higher than this total amount will be invoiced separately and paid for and shipped separately. Any additional items sent separately will be at a shipping cost calculated on the same basis as the first shipment. Any single item valued at over $250 or multiple items shipped together valued over $700 sent outside of the USA or Canada are to be sent by expedited mail (signature option) exact shipping costs to be determined but please expect it to be in excess of $60. These shipping requirements are not negotiable and are based on the current eBay and Paypal policy which provides no seller protection for fraud or theft above these amounts. For the following countries all shipments valued at over $60 may be sent by Registered mail unless you are a repeat customer. These currently include Mexico, Romania, Russia, China, Brazil, Israel, Turkey Thailand and any other country that the seller at his sole discretion determines to be high risk. Please note that for Registered mail we actually charge significantly below our cost for shipping. Please note that in an auction items may start at a very low price and may be sold at prices that may considerably exceed the original starting bid. For the purposes of calculation of shipping costs the final cost of the item will be used to calculate the shipping rate and method of shipping NOT the original shipping cost specified in the listing. INVOICE Buyers please wait until I send an invoice with the correct shipping cost instead of doing self checkout as this will save me time in making a Paypal request for additional shipping or tax costs. 

SHIPPING TIME
All items are sent within 5 business days of receipt of payment. It then takes approximately 1-2 weeks (sometimes longer) for the postal system to make it’s delivery. If you receive a notice from eBay stating that the item has been shipped it may not be correct. Please look at your payment date and add 5 business days and contact us only if your item has not been received 2 weeks from this date.
