Antique Chinese Jade Carving Three Rams Bat Clouds Qing Period Scholar Stone

Offered here is a fine antique Chinese jade carving depicting three rams among cloud forms, a bat, and auspicious symbols. This beautifully carved piece has been in my personal collection for over 30 years and was purchased from Miko Oriental Arts, Honolulu, Hawaii around 1991–1992.

At the time of purchase, dealer Ferdinand Micklautz believed the carving to date to the Qing period, and possibly earlier. He stated that it came from his personal collection, and that it had already been in a Hawaii collection since at least before the 1960s when he acquired it.

This carving is especially attractive in the way the artisan used the natural features and tonal variations of the stone to enhance the symbolic carving. I have shown it in strong light in the photos so that these details can be seen clearly.

The subject matter is rich in traditional Chinese symbolism, with the three rams often associated with good fortune and auspicious meaning, while the bat and clouds further add to the decorative and symbolic appeal.
