Antique Barr Flight & Barr Worcester Armorial Cup & Saucer Phipps Crest c1803-1814

Offered here is a fine early 19th century English porcelain armorial cup and saucer by Barr, Flight & Barr, Worcester, dating to approximately 1803–1814.

The set is beautifully decorated with the Phipps family crest, depicting a lion’s gamb (paw) erect holding a trefoil, with the motto below:
“RE E MERITO” (loosely interpreted as “by merit”).

The decoration is executed on a rich salmon/orange ground with exceptional gilt border ornament, typical of the refined Regency output of the Worcester factory during this period.

The reverse bears the elaborate script marks including:
Crown / Barr Flight & Barr Worcester / Flight & Barr Coventry Street London / Manufacturers to their Majesties & Royal Family, confirming production during the early partnership period.

This service was likely made for a member of the Phipps family, possibly connected to General Henry Phipps, 1st Earl of Mulgrave (1755–1831), although this attribution should be considered possible but not guaranteed without documented provenance.
