This Jet originates from Whitby on the East Coast of the UK. There are natural pits and fissures in these stones.

Jet is a natural organic stone which formed from compressed wood of the Monkey Puzzle tree (Araucaria).

Jet came to prominence in the 1800s when the Prince Consort, Prince Albert died, an event which encouraged Queen Victoria to have mourning jewellery cut from jet. Since then it has been associated with mourning, but is also very much a stone of protection and grounding. It is also a good stone for helping with protection from mental stress.
