This is an antique Japanese late Edo Era (c. 1850) serving tray, Obon or Ozen.  It would have been used to serve tea or small appetizers. It is made of cryptomeria wood with over 20 coats of Japanese dark brown and lacquer.  It has raised gold (makie) lacquer in the form of flowers on one corner.  It came in an original set of 20 tray. See original presentation box - (not included) in pictures 18, 19, & 20.  

 Having been storage for over 180 years and protected by its original wooden storage box with the exception of very minor signs of past use, this tray remains overall in very fine condition.  Sits squarely on floor or table.  The lacquer is till in good polish.

It measures 10 3/4" square by 2 1/4" tall (27 x 5,5  cm). A very elegant and functional piece of art to display your treasures.   Please note: The imari  cups seen in the first picture is not part of this listing but can be seen in current sailerking or shoguns listings.

It was purchased at auction in Japan in its original 180 year old protective lidded storage box (see pictures 18 - 20) and it contained 20 similar ozen (9 remain unsold).  Purchase more than two and receive a 20% discount
