WALT DISNEY ANIMATION
PINOCCHIO (1940)
ORIGINAL STROMBOLI PRODUCTION DRAWING
"Sure! I will push you in the public's eye. Your face, she will be on everybody's tongue!"
For sale here is a classic piece of authentic Disneyana depicting one of the earliest members of the Disney Villains club.
Released on February 7, 1940, Walt Disney's Pinocchio was Disney's second full length animated feature classic and his follow up to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It was the first animated feature to win a competitive Academy Award (Best Song and Best Score) and is widely regarded as not just one of the most important animated features ever produced, but one of the greatest films of all time.
Among the many well known scenes in the movie, is when Pinocchio is fooled by the villainous Stromboli into believing that he has a choice about being one of his "actors" before finding out the the truth. This frame is from that scene and displays the markings of exactly when it appears, as Stromboli forms the 'sh' sound in the word "sure" from the above quote.
The frame carries several handwritten notes and the official stamp with the production number, sequence number and scene number.
Stromboli's design and animation were overseen by renowned animator and Disney Legend Vladimir Tytla. Tytla, known for his artistry throughout the industry, was often assigned characters of particular importance to the storyline. His personal performance could be seen in every frame and he was very adept at drawing hands, using colored pencils to differentiate between primary and secondary movements.
Stromboli is presented here rendered in graphite and color pencil on 12 field 5 peghole animation paper. He is in Very Good condition with typical edge and handling wear, some tears to the edges of the page, age-related toning and peghole reinforcement as seen in the high resolution photos provided.
This is an opportunity to own an absolute gem for any Disney collector or film fan. A major Disney villain from one of the earliest and most important animated films ever made in a wonderfully expressive moment notated on the drawing to the exact moment in the film. A treasure.
