Wonderful antique spelter clock topper statue of the ancient Greek god Hermes (Roman god Mercury), holding his caduceus in one hand while sitting on a fishing boat.
This large. heavy statue is cast in spelter metal with a gilt finish and exceptional artistry and detail, from the folds in his toga to the intertwined serpents on his caduceus to the nautical elements on the boat - including the fishing nets, anchor and figurehead on the bow.
It stands 12" tall by 6.5" wide by 6" deep. and weighs 7 lbs.
This statue dates from the late 19th-early 20th century, and most likely sat on top of a mantel clock or mantel piece. A true work of Old World craftsmanship.
