About the Artist
David Freed (1939–2022) enjoyed a distinguished artistic career spanning more than five decades. He founded the printmaking department at Virginia Commonwealth University and became Professor Emeritus there. Freed earned a BFA from Miami University (Ohio) and an MFA from the University of Iowa.
His numerous honours included:

* Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship (1983–84)
* Theresa Pollak Prize for Excellence in the Arts (2001)
* VCU Award of Distinction from the Southern Graphic Council (2009)
