Grow your own classic Waltham 29 Broccoli, a dependable heirloom broccoli variety loved by home gardeners for its flavorful green heads, cold tolerance, and good side-shoot production after the main head is harvested.
Waltham 29 is a cool-season annual vegetable that grows best in spring and fall. It produces medium to large blue-green broccoli heads with tender texture and classic garden-fresh flavor. After harvesting the central head, plants may continue producing smaller side shoots for an extended harvest.

Growing Instructions:
Start seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost, or direct sow outdoors in cool weather. Plant seeds about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep in moist, well-drained soil. Keep soil evenly moist during germination and early growth.
Space plants about 18 inches apart with rows 24–30 inches apart. Broccoli grows best in cool weather with full sun and steady moisture. Harvest the main head when it is firm and tight, before the yellow flowers open. Continue harvesting side shoots as they develop.
