This seldom seen vintage 1970's Waltham Electrodyne has a black and grey "FRANCE" signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows wear. The lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact, has aged gracefully. The bezel rotates a bit stiffly bidirectionally. The black insert, which shows wear, has a lume dot that complements the dial beautifully. The all stainless steel case shows considerable wear with insignificant signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "ALL STAINLESS STEEL CASE WATER RESISTANT SHOCK RESISTANT" with "WALTHAM" followed by "ELECTRODYNE" stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped "WALTHAM WATCH Co" followed by "FRENCH MADE,""B450" and "184.60.686.0." The crystal is nearly blemish free.

The 13 jewels unadjusted France "WALTHAM WATCH Co" hacking LIP R184 (although stamped R148 it has a date wheel, making it an R184) movement with electromechanically controlled balance motor had a new battery installed in April 2026. It keeps time to within specs (+- 30 seconds per day) and the date wheel rolls over at 12 am. There is no quickset date function. The hack feature works perfectly as it should by pulling the non-screwdown crown out to the time setting position which stops the seconds hand. Once the crown is pushed back in the seconds hand resumes running. Given that the last service was done in November 2020 a complete overhaul is overdue and recommended.

Using only a ruler this watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39.5 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel/insert, is approximately 10.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 12 mm. The lug to lug distance measures approximately 48 mm.

A complete overhaul is overdue and recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
