A rare piece of Irish history, other examples of coins stamped like this are often found in museums. A propaganda tactic used by the IRA and the UVF was to stamp coins and put them back into circulation. This coin was taken from The Irish Republic (The South Of Ireland) by the Ulster Volunteer Force and stamped by them and most likely returned across the border to intimidate and instill fear. This is more than just a coin, this is a relic from one of the longest wars in recent history - The 30 year war, where the IRA, mainly the Provisional Irish Republican Army fought the might of the British Empire and forced them to talks in order to end the conflict. Very few of these, especially in this condition ever become available as most are in private collections or museum's. I have this coin and an Irish Florin from 1959 available ( listed separately) both were counter stamped with the same stamp. Two coins I acquired from coin collectors from different parts of the world with that were stamped by the same U.V.F gang back in the hight of the troubles. Both extremely rare.
