Every now and then I'm fortunate enough to unearth a very special race worn item associated with legendary horses, trainers and jockeys. Such is the case with this item. Up for bid is an actual set of race worn jockey silks connected with one of the greatest trainers in the history of horse racing: JACK VAN BERG. Winner also receives a signed COA documenting the absolute provenance of the silks, which I acquired directly from Encarnacion Sandoval, the director of the Colors Room at Santa Anita, Del Mar and Los Alamitos. Inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Fair Grounds Racing Hall of Fame in 1991, he was the first trainer in horse racing history to win 5,000 races. He was the trainer of two of the most accomplished horses in racing ... Gate Dancer who won the Preakness and famously placed 3rd after being dq'd in the very first running of the Breeders' Cup Classic, and the brilliant Alysheba who won the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Breeders' Cup Classic. He also mentored many top trainers including Bill Mott, Frank Brothers, and Wayne Catalano. Upon his death in 2017, he had amassed 6,523 wins. I can only imagine the plentiful number of elite jockeys, horses, and races that might be connected to these silks. Unfortunately, I was not able to confirm with certainty any specific horses, races or jockeys directly linked to it. Only that this is an actual set of JACK VAN BERG race worn jockey silks. The silks shows significant wear and remains in well worn, race worn condition. Winning bidder pays 18.95 for U.S. priority sh/hand/ins. International bidders are welcome. PLEASE NOTE: I will no longer be accepting bids from any bidder with a feedback rating of 6 or less, unless the bidder messages me first before bidding. If bids are placed without messaging me first, I will retain the option of canceling those bids.
