This is a 100+ year old antique Japanese haribako from the mid Taisho Era (c. 1920). This haribako (portable sewing tansu) is made of kiri (paulownia) wood interior with burl mulberry exteriors and has a nice configuration of four drawers with a lidded 2 area top section.  There is a side slot  (see picture 11) which was used to slide a bamboo measuring device down (not included)

Haribako were used to store all the needed items for the lady of the house for sewing and minor repairs.  It was also used to store her hesokuri (secret money stach).    This chest still has its original century  year old patina. 

 All drawers open and close smoothly. The double hinged lidded top swings opens and closes easily.  

With the exception to some minor wear on one corner (see picture 12) and some minor loss to the veneer on the swing open lid (see picture 13), it remains in very good original condition.

This haribako chest measures 11 1/2" wide by 9 1/2 '' tall by 7" deep (29 x 24 x 17.5).  A very warm accent for your home or office.
