At the request of HOHNER USA, some MAD CAT guitars were exported under the "HOHNER" brand, and one of these guitars was given to Prince. He used it as his main guitar in the film "Purple Rain," which helped make the MAD CAT a globally renowned model.

A temporary reissue was produced in 2009, with a small number of guitars sold, but they sold out before music stores had a chance to display them properly. In response, a reissue was launched in 2011, marking the 45th anniversary of Moridaira Musical Instruments, the manufacturer of the MAD CAT.
