Stained glass transom panel reading "AUDITORIUM COURT," executed in white glass lettering set against a mottled green glass field. The lettering is formed from individually cut pieces joined by lead came, giving the sign a crisp, architectural presence typical of early institutional wayfinding. The panel is housed in its original oak frame with mitered corners and retains two small hanging loops along the top edge. The green glass shows natural variation and depth, while the white lettering stands in strong contrast, designed for legibility in corridor light. Reverse orientation visible in one view confirms its original placement as a transom or interior directional sign.
This panel is believed to have been removed from the University of Illinois Auditorium prior to its 1937 renovation, placing it within the original early 20th-century phase of the building; however, we have no provenance to confirm this. The Auditorium--now known as Foellinger
Auditorium--was completed in 1907, which would make this sign part of its initial interior architectural program.
Shows light to moderate wear including minor scratches to the glass, age-related darkening to the lead came, and finish wear to the oak frame. Structurally sound with no major cracks observed.
