This vintage Zululand Safari Lodge matchbox is in very good condition considering its age and past use. The graphics are intact and the only noteworthy condition issues are a variety of minor blemishes and wear marks associated with its past use that are clearly visible in the photos. The cover of the matchbox features 3 vervet monkeys and the back features 4 “Useful Conversions” charts. The matchbox was made by Lion Match Co. Ltd. in South Africa and is 4-1/2” x 2-1/2” and 1” thick. According to my cursory on-line research, the subject lodge is still in existence as part of the Ubizane Zululand Safari & Tree Lodge located in Hluhluwe, South Africa. This matchbox was probably made in the 1970s since South Africa’s conversion to the metric system occurred between 1971 and 1973. The word “inhoud” on the sides of the matchbox is Dutch for “contents”.
NOTE: The matches shown in the last photo were found in the matchbox and where left there only for scale. However, they will not be included in the shipped item when purchased.
