Antique La May Sport Vanity "Poudre L'Amé" face powder tin by Herbert Roystone Inc., 216 West 18th Street, New York, NY. Dating to the 1920s, this is a wonderful example of early American cosmetics packaging from a pioneer of vanity case design.

The lid features a charming lithographed illustration of Pierrot and Columbine — iconic Commedia dell'Arte characters — dancing on a teal/green background with a gold-tone border. The sides are decorated with a beautiful floral garland pattern on alternating teal and gold stripes, with "Herbert Roystone Inc. New York" printed on the band.

The underside reads: "La May Sport Vanity — Poudre L'Amé — The Purest, Finest Face Powder Known to Science — To avoid enlarged pores and keep your skin young, always use La May — Sold everywhere at 35¢, 60¢ & $1.00 — Herbert Roystone, 216 West 18th St., New York, N.Y."
