Expressive original Pastel Painting by listed artist Elof Wedin (Sweden 1901-US Minnesota 1983) is signed and dated for 1958 lower right. Verso the artist has pencil signed, marked the original price, and titled the work that appears to read "Kemle_y Muse". 
The frame measurement is 31" x 25.5", the sight area within the matte 23.5" x 18". The artwork is in excellent condition, no issues noted. The wooden frame has some surface wear, it appears handmade, possibly by the artist. The matte has mild age toning mentioned for accuracy.
At the very beginning of his career in 1926, Wedin showed the influence of modernism in works by European masters like Paul Cezanne and the Italian modernist Amedeo Modigliani. As Wedin developed as an artist, his style evolved from Regionalism towards modern abstraction, for which he is best known. Auction sales results for his oil paintings exceed 4k.
Biography Elof Wedin had a fifty-year career as an artist in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. After his death in 1983, a writer for the "St. Paul Pioneer Press and Dispatch" wrote that he was "among the 'big five' of the Minnesota artists of his generation." Wedin was born in Harmosand, Angermanland, along the fjords of East Central Sweden in 1901. He immigrated to America in 1919, residing in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
