Up for sale is this handsome and scarce 1867 E. Howard & Co Series III Open Face Cased Pocket Watch!
This watch comes from a Kentucky estate.
The signed, "E. Howard & Co., Boston" white baked glass dial has black Roman numerals, cobalt blue & silver spade style hour and minute hands, and a sub second hand. The hour hand exhibits minute scratches to its spade. Beautiful dial with outer second dial track. Dial has no chips or hairlines. (see photos)
The signed, "E. Howard & Co., Boston", gilt, N size, 3/4 plate, key-wind/ key-set, movement contains 15 burnished jewels. The serial number is 11686. The movement has a good balance, and runs. The barrel winding cup is missing. We have no idea how long it has sat or when it was last serviced, so recommend a complete clean, oil & adjust. No key is included. (see photos & video)
The signed, "Dueber, Silverine, 796055" on the inner back cover and "3, 796055" on the inner cuvette, open face case has nickel hinges, and a beveled crystal. Both front and back hinged covers open completely to 90 degrees without any overplay, while the dust cover opens a bit further. The pendant top exhibits porosity (pitting). Overall, the case presents well with wear (scratches, impressions, rubs, porosity, green patina & dirt) commensurate with its age. (see photos)
This early E. Howard would most certainly be worn again or added to your early Howard collection. It is being offered in as-is, where-is, and as-found condition. No returns.
Thank you for visiting.
