Tpms Reset
Steps to Reset TPMS
Check Tire Pressure:
- Ensure all tires are inflated to the recommended pressure, which can usually be found on a sticker in the drivers door jamb or in your owners manual.
- If the tires are underinflated, inflate them to the correct pressure before attempting the reset.
Turn the Vehicle to ON Position:
- With the car off, turn the ignition key to the ?ON? position (do not start the engine).
- For vehicles with push-button start, press the button without pressing the brake, so the electronics power on without starting the engine.
Locate the TPMS Reset Button:
- Find the TPMS reset button, usually located under the dashboard, near the steering wheel. In some vehicles, it may also be part of the infotainment system?s settings menu.
- If you?re not sure where it is, refer to your owner?s manual for its exact location.
Press and Hold the Reset Button:
- Press and hold the TPMS reset button until the TPMS indicator light blinks slowly three times, then release it.
- Some vehicles may require you to hold it for a specific duration, such as 10 seconds.
Start the Vehicle:
- Start the engine and let the vehicle run for 20?25 minutes to allow the system to recalibrate with the new tire pressure settings.
Drive the Vehicle:
- In some cases, you may need to drive at 20 mph or faster for a few minutes for the sensors to reset.
Check for the TPMS Light:
- The TPMS light should turn off within a few minutes. If it doesn?t, you may need to try the reset procedure again.
- If the light remains on after repeated attempts, there could be an issue with one or more of the TPMS sensors, which may need servicing or replacement.
Additional Notes
- Some vehicles reset automatically: Many newer models reset automatically after tire inflation, without requiring a manual reset.
- Using a scan tool: If these steps don?t work, certain vehicles may require a TPMS reset using a scan tool, which can be done at most automotive service centers.
