Antique, early 20th century Japanese two-handled rice bucket, Masu. It was used to measuring and storing rice. Made of unknown hardwood with iron banding. In good condition with minor scratching of the wood and some separation of the iron banding from the bucket due to lost iron brads. This bucket is lined with very old Japanese newsprint and shows staining and foxing, consistent with its age and use. It has a beautiful patina and would be a lovely add to collectors of Asian artifacts.
