Description: This delicate plate originates from: 'Oogen Salve; Verdeylt in Drie Tractaten.', by Petri de la Faille, 1647 ed. published in Leuven by Bernardijn Maes. (Transl.: Eyes ointment / anointing eyes, divided in 3 parts.) This work is lavishly illustrated with fine woodblock prints.
Artists and Engravers: Author: Petrus de la Faille (b.1584), who was a preacher in Caudekerc. Born Calvinist in Dordrecht he later moved to Belgium, where het transferred to Catholocism in 1607 and became a Franciscan. Plates cut by Christoffel van Sichem. Christoffel van Sichem (1581, Basel � 1658, Amsterdam), was a Dutch Golden Age woodcutter and engraver.

Subject: Plate, page 148: (Isaiah 32) - A King Will Reign in Righteousness. It shows: the upper half of the image shows the trinity (Father, Son and the Holy Spirit) looking down on a busy city scene. The division in the lower half of the image is between the virtuous men, praying on their knees, and the others, romping through town. On the rear is an image of Christ carrying a sheep on his shoulders.
Condition: Very good given age. General age-related toning and/or light stains from handling. Please study scan carefully.
Size (in cm): The overall size is ca. 9 x 14 cm. The image size is ca. 7.5 x 11 cm. Size (in inch): The overall size is ca. 3.5 x 5.5 inch. The image size is ca. 3 x 4.3 inch.
Medium: Original woodcut on verge type hand laid paper. Watermarks present, but nog visible on every sheet.
