This is a wonderful example of a 'Cellini' solid sterling silver and gilt wine ewer.
It carries the maker's name of George Ivory and is clearly hallmarked for London 1851. Every part (including the ring top of the stopper) carries conforming hallmarks. The stopper is cork with silver mounts at either end. There are a slightly clumsy pair of initials on the neck of the ewer. Benvenuto Cellini was an 16th century Italian goldsmith and silversmith and an important artist of the Mannerist period.
A stunning piece.
