Book Description

First edition, first printing of Sexual Dimorphism in the Animal Kingdom: A Theory of the Evolution of Secondary Sexual Characters (Adam & Charles Black, 1900). Written by J. T. Cunningham, an Oxford-trained zoologist, this important work examines secondary sexual characteristics across mammals and birds, continuing the scientific debates initiated by Darwin in The Descent of Man. Illustrated with thirty-two plates and figures.

This copy was acquired along with other volumes from the estate of UC Berkeley Professor Malcolm Potts (Public Health), though it bears no ownership marks itself.

Condition

Original green cloth with gilt spine lettering, still clear and legible. Covers show fading and mild rubbing consistent with age. Hinges show splitting and looseness when the book is opened, though the spine remains intact and boards are secure. Pages are toned, with darker toning on edges and lighter toning to surfaces. Interior is clean and unmarked. Overall, a solid Very Good- example of this 125-year-old scientific text.
