This is an original antique 1880s, paper covered, 5.75"x3-7/8", 112-page trade catalog titled Price List of Rubber Stamps and Stamp Goods issued by Morgan, Crossman & Co., Springfield, Massachusetts. This rare 19th century office supply catalog features a complete price list and illustrated advertising booklet devoted to rubber stamps, self-inking stamps, numbering stamps, dating stamps, steel and iron stamps, brass stencils, wax seals, check protectors, house numbers, stamp racks, paper fasteners, and office stationery goods.
Inside are numerous engraved illustrations showing early stamp presses, lever self-inking machines, trade-mark designs, monograms, and decorative cuts used for customizing stamps. The catalog even includes pages of special cuts, chess and checker pieces, Masonic symbols, livestock, tools, patriotic emblems, trade marks, and advertising motifs that could be incorporated into personalized stamp orders. These detailed examples make this booklet not only a reference for Victorian office equipment and printing history but also an attractive piece of antique advertising ephemera.
The catalog is complete in its original red printed wrappers. Condition shows expected wear to the covers, spine rubbing, and edge chipping, but the interior pages are clean, crisp, and legible. An excellent example of Gilded Age American trade catalogs and a valuable collectible for those interested in printing history, office supplies, business advertising, and 19th century Springfield Massachusetts ephemera.
