The Booker T. Washington commemorative half dollar, minted from 1946 to 1951, is a 90% silver coin featuring a bust of Washington on the obverse and his birthplace cabin on the reverse. Designed by Isaac Scott Hathaway, it was the first U.S. coin to honor a Black person. 

Purpose: To fund the Booker T. Washington Birthplace Memorial Commission.
