Comedic Themed Pin for first flight of the Titan IVB launch Vehicle. Pin is ringed with the following info: "Per Aspera Ad Astra". (Though Hardship to the stars), "BERT" (Nickname for this vehicle), US Air Force 50 Years 1947 -1997 ( Air Force seperated from Army Air Corps September 8 1947). B-24 (Vehicle Designation) , "The New Era Begins. Titan Team CCAS, FL"
Launched February 23, 1997. The Payload was a Secret NRO mission DSP Satellite.
Another interesting feature is you see that sort of cartoonish face peering over the earth? That's the satellite wearing a pair of glasses. Check it out. Sometimes the imagery used in these logo gave clues as to what was being launched. I'm not sure if the satellite design was disclosed at that time or not. Pretty Cheeky no?
Pin is approximately 1 1/2 inch across ... big and good!
I have never seen another one of these pins offered anywhere ... have you?
