One of history's most intriguing unsolved disappearances! Extremely hard to find American historical document. I have found no other original ones anywhere other than in publications.
Absolutely original (NOT A REPRODUCTION) New York City Police Department circular. Has creases from folding, numerous pin holes from posting on bulletin boards, minor ink stains and tears, and paper tanning all consistent with age, use, and storage. See close-ups.
New York City Police Department circular No. 11 from September 17, 1930, seeking information on the disappearance of Supreme Court Justice Joseph Force Crater. He has been famously dubbed the "most missingest man in America".
Crater, a New York Supreme Court Justice, was last seen on August 6, 1930, and was 41 years old at the time of his disappearance.
Despite an extensive investigation, no conclusive evidence of his fate was ever found, leading to widespread speculation of mob ties and the popular phrase "to pull a Crater," meaning to vanish without a trace.
Rumors swirled that Crater, whose alleged fondness for showgirls had already earned him a shady reputation, had paid off the Tammany Hall political machine bosses for his lucrative new job.
He was officially declared legally dead in 1939, and the case was closed in 1979.
