biotectNatural support for ahealthy, positive moodMood Balance Biotect was designed to combinethe benefits of three of the most effectivesupplements for natural mood management:
saffron, 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), andS-adenosylmethionine (SAMe).
Clinical trials on each ofthese three natural substances suggest they promotea healthy, positive mood.1-7 When combined in onesupplement the benefits are enhanced due to theircomplementary, but different mode of action.• Saffron, dried stigmas of the saffron flower, provideunique antioxidants: crocins, which are carotenoids, and safranal• 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan), produced by thebody from the amino acid tryptophan, is a precursor toserotonin• SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) produced by the bodyfrom the amino acid methionine, is involved in producingneurotransmitters in the brainSaffronThe culinary spice saffron, which consists of dried stigmasof the saffron flower, contains a type of carotenoids calledcrocins and another distinctive antioxidant called safranal, both of which likely contribute to its mood-boostingeffects. Seven trials on saffron have reported efficacy inimproving mood scores; most studies used a dose of 30mg/day. Saffron is thought to promote brain health andmood through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and also by increasing serotonin levels in the brain.1-4, 8Serotonin is a neurotransmitter whose proper functionand transmission is important for feelings of wellbeingand healthy mood.• 100% vegan• Saffron provides uniqueantioxidants: crocins and safranal
5-HTPThe amino acid tryptophan is a precursor to theneurotransmitter serotonin, and 5-HTP aims to provideraw material to produce serotonin. A meta-analysis on5-HTP published in 2002 reported that 5-HTP is moreeffective than placebo at improving mood, however theauthors noted that only two studies had met the qualitycriteria to be included in the analysis.5 Since then, another clinical trial reported improvements in mood inresponse to 5-HTP.6
SAMeSAMe is a substance naturally present in the body, formedfrom the amino acid methionine; in the brain, SAMe isimportant for the synthesis of neurotransmitters. Several trialshave reported that supplementation with SAMe improvedmood scores.7, 9-11 Note that people with bipolar disorder shouldnot take SAMe. If you are immunocompromised consult your physician.
